  • Who can join the club?
Any student at Clemson can join the club, including graduate students and students on co-op rotation.
  • How much does it cost to be in the club?
$20. This fee covers the cost of your t-shirt, snacks for our end of the semester meetings, and various supplies for workshops throughout the semester such as a long-exposure workshop using sparklers and flashlights.
  • What activities does the club do?
We have a meeting every two weeks that is an hour long where we talk about upcoming events and learn about a category of photography. Twice a semester we go on photo walks as a group. We have sideline passes for most sports that all members can use (depending on the sport). We always have an end-of-semester pizza party the week before finals start.
  • Do I need a fancy camera?
No! You don't need any camera at all. The cameras built into phones nowadays are actually really powerful, and you can learn a lot of theory if you get an app that allows full manual control of the camera.
  • What sports do you get sideline passes to?
We typically have passes for football, basketball, soccer, and baseball games. The club has an agreement worked out with tennis, volleyball, and rowing so that we can take pictures at those events as well. This year we are hoping to get a pass for track meets.
  • Can anyone take pictures at those games?
It depends. Football passes are restricted to students that have been active members of the club for at least one year (sorry Freshman), and each photographer can only use a pass for 1-2 games because of demand within the club. Men's basketball games are also restricted to 2 games per person and given out based on club seniority. But soccer, baseball, and all the other sports are easy to get a pass for and are a great way to gain experience.
  • Do you have any special equipment club members get to use?
We have a few studio lighting units and some backdrops. The library at Clemson actually has a great selection of equipment to choose from and I recommend just borrowing their equipment. https://libraries.clemson.edu/technology-categories/cameras/
  • What advantages are there to joining the club?
The club is a great way to meet people outside of your academic major and to learn more about all aspects of photography. We host one-hour workshops on different types of photography and try to have a hands-on portion of the session, we bring in guest speakers to teach us, and we go on photo-walks around campus and the botanical gardens just to do something fun. The club is also minimal-committment and doesn't cost much to join.
  • Problems joining the club Facebook Group page
